1 01:00:00,000 --> 01:00:09,000 has a new humanoid species been discovered in the mountains near Nazca, Peru? 00:17.000 --> 00:21.000 We are living in a very exciting moment. This is pure history in the making. 00:21.000 --> 00:26.000 Have scientists working around the world proven that the Nazca mummies are genuine? 00:26.000 --> 00:34.000 The results strongly support that these beings are not closely related to any known organism on earth. 00:34.000 --> 00:38.000 Is there a concerted effort to discredit and deny the evidence? 00:38.000 --> 00:44.000 The Ministry of Culture until last Friday was interested in participating, but for unknown reasons they've backed down. 00:44.000 --> 00:50.000 If it was really an ET mummy, they should be able to show cat scans and x-rays of the individual. 00:50.000 --> 00:55.000 They have done x-rays on them. Is that something the Ministry of Culture would be interested in? 00:56.000 --> 01:00.000 Never before seen footage of the location where the bodies were found. 01:00.000 --> 01:04.000 It's clear that this was some hidden place. Maybe there are more subjects. 01:04.000 --> 01:09.000 New high-resolution cat scans that contain startling revelations. 01:09.000 --> 01:14.000 Inside he was able to detect the fetus of some creature. 01:16.000 --> 01:22.000 It is clear by scientists that it's something different. It is not human. 01:23.000 --> 01:27.000 Unearthing Nazca 01:33.000 --> 01:43.000 In 2016, a rare find was discovered in the Palpa region, south of Peru, very close to the mythical region of Nazca. 01:43.000 --> 01:51.000 A huacarro, or tomb raider, found a group of mummified bodies with surprising physical characteristics. 01:51.000 --> 01:55.000 Hands with three fingers and elongated heads. 01:55.000 --> 02:02.000 According to his account, he found them in a secret tomb, of which only he knew the location. 02:02.000 --> 02:12.000 The subsequent testing on these bodies revealed extraordinary facts, such as their ancientness and the fact that it was a biological organism. 02:12.000 --> 02:20.000 At the same time, the tests opened more questions of what these mummified beings could be. 02:20.000 --> 02:30.000 Countries government officials and archaeologists were very adamant about not being involved, yet they let the testing continue privately. 02:30.000 --> 02:35.000 What did this huacarro really find that day in 2016? 02:35.000 --> 02:45.000 And why have the local authorities not taken part in the research of what could be an unparalleled discovery in Peru? 02:45.000 --> 02:49.000 Is this a well-orchestrated fraud by a tomb raider? 02:49.000 --> 02:56.000 Or are we facing a blatant attempt to discredit such an astonishing finding? 02:56.000 --> 02:59.000 And if so, for what purpose? 02:59.000 --> 03:12.000 This is the story of a group of scientists and journalists from different countries looking to gain access to the mummies and discover the truth, no matter what the barriers might be. 03:15.000 --> 03:31.000 If you are questioning why a grave robber should be trusted with such a find, we want to bring to your attention that sometimes the most astonishing finds in history can be uncovered in the most unorthodox ways. 03:31.000 --> 03:35.000 We are not condoning the idea of robbing graves. 03:35.000 --> 03:47.000 We are simply saying that throughout history there have been discoveries found by such a person that changed the course of history and what we thought we knew about ancient cultures. 03:47.000 --> 03:57.000 Such is the case of the most ancient biblical texts on record, the so-called Dead Sea Scrolls written in Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. 03:57.000 --> 04:04.000 The scrolls were found by Bedouin shepherds looking for their goats in a cave of the Qumran region. 04:04.000 --> 04:14.000 They gathered as much as they could carry and sold some of the scrolls to the highest bidder and used the rest for kindling for a fire. 04:14.000 --> 04:30.000 This find not only became a source of income for the shepherds, but it provided a wealth of comparative material for New Testament scholars, including many important parallels between Christianity and Judaism. 04:31.000 --> 04:35.000 On the other side of the world, a similar story took place. 04:35.000 --> 04:47.000 In Peru, in 1987, authorities became aware of a magnificent find after a disagreement between two grave robbers that led to the discovery of the Lord of Sippon tomb. 04:47.000 --> 04:59.000 This discovery was compared to the excavation of King Tut in Egypt, an almost completely intact ancient burial, which is a rare and dazzling discovery. 04:59.000 --> 05:07.000 It was quite rare for archaeologists to have access to a tomb which is nearly complete, like the one they found with Lord Sippon. 05:07.000 --> 05:14.000 This allowed new discoveries by archaeologists and historians' previous knowledge of the Mochi culture. 05:14.000 --> 05:21.000 This story also begins with a tomb raider, or Huacarro, who we will call Mario. 05:21.000 --> 05:26.000 When entering a secret tomb, he found something that he had never seen before. 05:26.000 --> 05:35.000 Several mummies with very different characteristics to humans, like very strange heads and hands covered in a white powder. 05:35.000 --> 05:48.000 Without specifying the exact site, he said that it was in a desert between Palpa and Nazca, in the department of Ica, an archaeological area in which several remnants have been found. 05:48.000 --> 05:55.000 According to those who still conduct this illicit activity, it still hides many more treasures. 05:55.000 --> 06:01.000 Because of his expertise, Mario knew that he had found pieces of great value. 06:01.000 --> 06:16.000 To be absolutely certain, he contacted Thierry Jamin, director of the Institut Incari, a non-governmental organization located in Cuzco, dedicated to the study of the historical Peruvian heritage. 06:16.000 --> 06:23.000 The purpose of showing Thierry the pieces he had found was to know if they were authentic or fake. 06:29.000 --> 06:42.000 Locals from this region of Peru, from the countryside, sometimes come to us with archaeological samples, ceramics and other artifacts, as well as their accounts about such and such a site they've discovered. 06:43.000 --> 06:48.000 In October 2016, we received one of those visits. 06:48.000 --> 06:54.000 The group was in possession of several artifacts, little bodies, heads and hands. 06:56.000 --> 07:00.000 They were looking for our professional opinion and support. 07:00.000 --> 07:04.000 They wanted our help in disclosing the findings. 07:04.000 --> 07:10.000 Our first impression was that they were authentic, given our expertise in analyzing mummified objects. 07:12.000 --> 07:17.000 Immediately, we realized the significance of the findings and thought it was a breakthrough. 07:17.000 --> 07:21.000 We felt we did not have the right to keep it to ourselves. 07:22.000 --> 07:26.000 The information was uploaded to the Internet, so it became public knowledge. 07:26.000 --> 07:36.000 Immediately, people from all over the world were interested in the findings and ready to conduct a deeper investigation of the pieces shown on the Internet. 07:36.000 --> 07:47.000 In October, November 2016, I saw some videos through the Internet and YouTube of this man in Peru presenting little bodies that didn't look human. 07:47.000 --> 07:52.000 He presented a huge hand that didn't look human. 07:52.000 --> 07:57.000 He said that they were found in a tomb in the middle of the desert near Nazca. 07:57.000 --> 08:02.000 Then I didn't pay attention because I thought they were fake. 08:02.000 --> 08:08.000 It's a hoax. I don't like it. I don't feel right when someone wants to be anonymous. 08:08.000 --> 08:18.000 But in March 2017, a biologist called me and said, look at this. This is very interesting. 08:18.000 --> 08:24.000 Have you talked to Thierry Jamin? He's a French archaeologist living in Cusco. 08:24.000 --> 08:28.000 And I said no. And he said, don't you want to interview him? 08:28.000 --> 08:33.000 And then I interviewed him in my program in the Internet. 08:33.000 --> 08:37.000 And I thought this was very serious. I thought this was very important. 08:37.000 --> 08:41.000 I thought this man had my credibility, Thierry Jamin. 08:41.000 --> 08:45.000 And I said, I have to go to Peru. 08:45.000 --> 08:52.000 Jaime Muson contacted Gaia to see if they wanted to investigate the bodies with him and his team. 08:52.000 --> 09:02.000 Our real mission on taking this lead and following Jaime to see these bodies was just to see what it is. 09:02.000 --> 09:08.000 We're just literally there because we're curious of what it might be. 09:08.000 --> 09:19.000 Several crews consisting of camera operators, translators, journalists and forensic experts headed to Cusco, Peru to see the pieces for themselves. 09:19.000 --> 09:27.000 Thierry believed the best thing to do was to alert the authorities as well so they could join in the discovery. 09:27.000 --> 09:38.000 On January 11, 2017, Thierry Jamin sent a letter to Dr. Jorge Nieto Montesinos, director of the Ministry of Culture in Peru, 09:38.000 --> 09:43.000 to inform him of the findings and to request his participation in the investigations. 09:43.000 --> 09:48.000 However, an official response was never received. 09:48.000 --> 10:00.000 I got in touch with the Peruvian Ministry of Culture at the beginning of January in order to make them aware of the case. 10:00.000 --> 10:07.000 We were worried for the possibility that this archaeological treasure trove would be taking out of the country. 10:07.000 --> 10:13.000 We acted promptly to try and make the government intervene before the pieces disappeared. 10:13.000 --> 10:17.000 I never received an official response. 10:17.000 --> 10:25.000 An archaeologist named Alberto Jacinto, head of the culture department at Nazca, got in touch with me via email 10:25.000 --> 10:32.000 to let me know that the minister in Lima had assigned him the case and ordered him to investigate. 10:32.000 --> 10:41.000 But I never received a direct answer from the ministry through a letter, as I expected, in reply to our letter. 10:41.000 --> 10:47.000 The null answer from the Peruvian government left those interested with no other alternative 10:47.000 --> 10:54.000 but to become the investigators and researchers themselves, to try getting to the bottom of the matter. 10:54.000 --> 11:01.000 Little by little, an interdisciplinary group of professionals took shape with people from five countries. 11:01.000 --> 11:07.000 It included scientist Konstantin Korotkov from Russia, journalists from Mexico and Peru, 11:07.000 --> 11:14.000 as well as the journalistic team from Gaia in the U.S., biologists and forensic doctors from Mexico, the U.S., 11:14.000 --> 11:22.000 and Peru, as well as archaeologist Thierry Jamin from France. 11:22.000 --> 11:31.000 With their combined efforts and individual abilities, they would try to reach an objective explanation to such a discovery. 11:31.000 --> 11:36.000 The team knew that despite the excitement and optimism, 11:36.000 --> 11:42.000 it would be necessary to compile evidence that could prove the discovery to be real. 11:42.000 --> 11:51.000 So they began the trip to Peru with hopes to meet Mario and gain access to the bodies that had caused such high expectations. 11:51.000 --> 11:56.000 We're in contact with all the players involved in the finding. 11:56.000 --> 12:01.000 We will start our research in order to establish the authenticity of the pieces. 12:01.000 --> 12:05.000 I've only seen the photographs and the x-rays and I'm very impressed with it. 12:05.000 --> 12:13.000 And I think this could be one of the most important discoveries ever in the history of the human race, actually. 12:13.000 --> 12:23.000 Well, we are ready to start this important trip to Peru to find out if these bodies are really non-human or if they are just an elaborated hoax. 12:23.000 --> 12:31.000 The results that we are going to find through forensic scientists, biologists and investigators are going to be very important. 12:31.000 --> 12:37.000 But things in Peru would not be so simple for the team. 12:37.000 --> 12:43.000 Gaining access to the bodies would be much more complicated than they had anticipated initially. 12:43.000 --> 12:50.000 The team had to negotiate in length just to gain access to the bodies. 12:50.000 --> 12:57.000 The first palpable evidence was given to the team in Cusco at the Institute in Cary. 12:57.000 --> 13:04.000 Its director, Thierry Jamin, showed several objects that Mario agreed for the group to see. 13:04.000 --> 13:11.000 Being face to face with the objects created an atmosphere of excitement and expectation. 13:11.000 --> 13:20.000 At the same time, it required them to capture as much data from the pieces as possible without losing objectivity. 13:20.000 --> 13:26.000 The first pieces of evidence were two strange, elongated heads. 13:30.000 --> 13:36.000 In this piece, there is a very small mandible. Very small. 13:36.000 --> 13:45.000 In the second piece, we can see the atlas or C1, the vertebrae that sits just below the skull. 13:45.000 --> 13:58.000 We can see some grooves. There is also what could be considered a mouth, nasal sinuses, a nose, and also orbital cavities, very prominent. 13:58.000 --> 14:03.000 Those cavities are crossed by grooves in both pieces. 14:04.000 --> 14:07.000 Both pieces are very similar. 14:08.000 --> 14:10.000 But were they real? 14:11.000 --> 14:20.000 During the first trip, the team learned that someone who had been associated with Mario showed the Ministry of Culture a three-fingered hand. 14:20.000 --> 14:23.000 The ministry labeled it as a fraud. 14:23.000 --> 14:32.000 They declared that the hands had been intentionally mutilated by removing two fingers, and that smeared plaster was giving them a mummified appearance. 14:32.000 --> 14:39.000 Additionally, the ministry concluded that the transformation was done in a workshop in Nazca. 14:39.000 --> 14:43.000 These assertions would certainly complicate the investigation. 14:43.000 --> 14:53.000 The ministry would condition the Peruvian scientists to be incredulous and ready to discredit any information related to this finding. 14:53.000 --> 15:00.000 Why would the Ministry of Culture look at this piece of evidence and not the other bodies Thierry wrote them about? 15:01.000 --> 15:08.000 The team continues to investigate all the findings to see if there was evidence of something organic. 15:09.000 --> 15:18.000 In this first visit, Thierry Jamin showed the group a couple of bodies about 60 cm in length, which had an organic appearance. 15:18.000 --> 15:26.000 Furthermore, one of the bodies had a strange bulge in the belly, much like that of a gestating organism. 15:26.000 --> 15:32.000 In this being, we find joints both in the elbows and lower limbs. 15:32.000 --> 15:39.000 Also, there are hip joints. There is a small bulge in the stomach near the hips. 15:42.000 --> 15:49.000 We need radiographs, or better yet, CAT scans, in order to determine what this protrusion is. 15:49.000 --> 15:57.000 The group moved to a clinic to perform X-rays and CAT scans on the bodies, and find out if they actually had an internal bone structure. 15:57.000 --> 16:02.000 The group also wanted to learn more about the bulge in the belly in one of the bodies. 16:02.000 --> 16:09.000 While performing the X-rays and CAT scans, they discovered some interesting structures inside the body. 16:09.000 --> 16:19.000 This is a very important image as it allows us to observe the bones, the skull with its bone consistency, but also the metal within its chest. 16:19.000 --> 16:25.000 This piece of metal won't allow us to see the bone underneath. 16:25.000 --> 16:30.000 This metal piece is embedded in the chest of the object. 16:30.000 --> 16:35.000 It blocks the view of the object, and it blocks the view of the body. 16:35.000 --> 16:43.000 However, when we reach the pelvic cavity or lower stomach, we see three structures with an oval shape. 16:43.000 --> 16:50.000 These structures do allow rays to penetrate and show the bone structure behind. 16:50.000 --> 16:56.000 You can't see it in radiographs, but upon physical examination of the specimen, 16:56.000 --> 17:01.000 we noticed a structure between the legs that could be identified as a birth canal. 17:01.000 --> 17:11.000 We can't be sure, but it is consistent with similar structures and species, such as reptiles that develop and lay eggs. 17:11.000 --> 17:19.000 The team was definitely impressed, and so much so that they were able to see the body. 17:19.000 --> 17:24.000 The team was definitely impressed, and so Mario promised more bodies. 17:24.000 --> 17:27.000 They continued with the investigation. 17:27.000 --> 17:32.000 The team moved to the southern part of the country, to the Nazca region. 17:32.000 --> 17:43.000 This place is known worldwide because of the lines and figures carved into the sandy desert-like floor that can only be observed from high altitude. 17:43.000 --> 17:51.000 The structures date back some 1700 years, which coincides with the time the Nazca culture flourished in the region. 17:51.000 --> 18:04.000 The lines in the Nazca figures, the geometric shapes, and the diverse animals such as birds, monkeys, spiders, hummingbirds, and even a whale are scattered over an area which covers several kilometres. 18:04.000 --> 18:07.000 Each figure varies in size. 18:07.000 --> 18:12.000 They can measure just a few metres, or hundreds. 18:12.000 --> 18:27.000 According to some studies, the figures could have served as an astronomical calendar because several of them are positioned to indicate equinoxes or solstices, as well as the movement of planets and the moon. 18:27.000 --> 18:39.000 Thanks to the absence of rainfall in the area and the mineral composition of the terrain, the traces remain almost unchanged to this day. 18:39.000 --> 18:50.000 Near this area, in the region of Palpa, the team was taken to a secret place where Mario promised to have a big surprise for them. 18:50.000 --> 18:54.000 From the beginning, Mario refused to give the exact location of the tomb. 18:54.000 --> 19:01.000 However, if an agreement was reached, he would be willing to show them a larger, unique mummy which they had discussed. 19:01.000 --> 19:10.000 He took the group to the top floor of his house, where after more negotiations, he finally agreed to bring the piece. 19:10.000 --> 19:14.000 We have a very important mission here in Peru. 19:14.000 --> 19:34.000 I came here together with a group of scientists, professionals, journalists, because we were supposed to see maybe one of the most important discoveries of the 21st century. 19:34.000 --> 19:40.000 Mario placed the box in front of the team. Inside was the mummy. 19:40.000 --> 19:43.000 Life-sized and in the fetal position. 19:43.000 --> 19:48.000 It looked almost human, except for some remarkable differences. 19:48.000 --> 19:55.000 The mummy had only three fingers, with four phalanges in its hands and feet. 19:55.000 --> 19:58.000 The head had an elongated shape. 19:58.000 --> 20:01.000 It was covered with a white powder. 20:01.000 --> 20:08.000 Unlike the Egyptian mummies, this was a desiccated body, apparently by natural methods. 20:08.000 --> 20:13.000 It showed no signs of decay and was in excellent condition. 20:13.000 --> 20:20.000 We have before us a body of anthropomorphic structure. 20:20.000 --> 20:28.000 It has a head, neck, thoracic cage, pelvis, and upper and lower limbs. 20:28.000 --> 20:40.000 Specifically in the head, we notice a well-articulated jawbone, no auricles, but auditory canals on both sides. 20:40.000 --> 20:46.000 It can change the consciousness of humanity as a whole. 20:46.000 --> 20:52.000 And all our concepts about history, about development, those are just concepts. 20:52.000 --> 20:56.000 And this opens up an absolutely new page of history. 20:56.000 --> 21:01.000 There is no doubt that it is a tremendous discovery. 21:01.000 --> 21:04.000 The piece was named Maria. 21:04.000 --> 21:13.000 The team took samples of the body to be tested in different laboratories in Russia, the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 21:13.000 --> 21:23.000 The x-rays and topographies that were performed on Maria showed surprising results and confirmed that it was an organic being with a bone structure. 21:23.000 --> 21:30.000 Konstantin showed some of the scans to the head of image analysis at a medical institute in Russia. 21:30.000 --> 21:39.000 We performed a CAT scan of a mature individual, a mummy referred to as Maria. 21:39.000 --> 21:45.000 It is the skeleton of a person with an anomaly. It's three-fingered. 21:46.000 --> 21:52.000 If we consider the traditional notion, the mummification process involves removal of internal organs. 21:52.000 --> 21:55.000 So technically, this is not a mummy. 21:55.000 --> 22:02.000 But if we consider that the body was mummified naturally, meaning the organs were simply not removed, 22:02.000 --> 22:10.000 this is a skeleton that is very well preserved, and we were able to clearly see many details in our CAT scans. 22:10.000 --> 22:16.000 All the structures and bones in the main body are visible in the analyzed tomography. 22:16.000 --> 22:22.000 If I understand correctly that some organs remained, does this prove that it is a real body? 22:22.000 --> 22:34.000 I would say yes. Because on scans of the back of the skull, we saw structures that are less dense than bone structures and most likely are hydrated remnants of the brain. 22:35.000 --> 22:42.000 Gaia also found a radiologist at a hospital in Denver, Colorado, to take a look at the scans. 22:42.000 --> 22:46.000 I am very curious to see what these images look like. 22:46.000 --> 22:53.000 I think what I can offer, looking at the images, looking at bones all day long and having expertise in bone, 22:53.000 --> 23:00.000 the bones of any mammalian skeleton, they're incredibly complex, 23:00.000 --> 23:05.000 which is a good thing for this because they're going to be extremely hard to reproduce. 23:05.000 --> 23:10.000 So I think we'll be able to tell if these are truly authentic bones. 23:10.000 --> 23:17.000 Looking at this skeleton, obviously we have a fairly humanoid looking bone. 23:17.000 --> 23:26.000 We've got the eyes that are facing forward, got the mandible with, you can see, rows of teeth, both above and below. 23:26.000 --> 23:36.000 The shape of the skull is interesting. It's very elongated, an atypical appearance of a human skull like you and I know. 23:36.000 --> 23:43.000 Looking at the rest of the skeleton, we have a thoracic spine that's holding the ribs or your rib cage or the chest. 23:43.000 --> 23:47.000 All of that looks very humanoid as well. 23:47.000 --> 23:53.000 Femurs, we have the tibia and the fibula. All of that is pretty typical. 23:53.000 --> 23:57.000 Even in the forearm here, you have bones called the radius and the ulna. 23:57.000 --> 24:04.000 Now, what's interesting here is we see there is a collection of bones here. 24:04.000 --> 24:09.000 This is called the corpus of the wrist. That's a typical appearance. 24:09.000 --> 24:19.000 But as we move outward, we're seeing really three distinct fingers, which is fascinating. 24:19.000 --> 24:28.000 The skull, I don't see any suture lines. There's no bones that are separate in the skull. They all appear fused. 24:28.000 --> 24:32.000 So this appears to be a solid structure. 24:32.000 --> 24:43.000 In the hand, coming from the corpus, not only do we see three and only three fingers, but you have enlargement of the bones as well. 24:43.000 --> 24:51.000 So we're seeing the same thing happening in the feet. The metacarpals and the phalanges. Metacarpals are in the palm of the hand. 24:51.000 --> 24:58.000 Phalanges are the fingers. So if we look at where the metacarpals would lie, these are very thick bones. 24:58.000 --> 25:03.000 They're much thicker than bones that you would find in my hand or in your hand. 25:03.000 --> 25:09.000 Same thing with the phalanges as well, or the finger bones, are very robust. 25:10.000 --> 25:20.000 If the CAT scans and x-rays proved it was organic bone and the bones didn't seem to be altered, could this be evidence of a new species? 25:20.000 --> 25:26.000 The team didn't want to jump to conclusions, so they waited for the samples to give them more evidence. 25:26.000 --> 25:32.000 The first test done with the samples was to determine what the white powder was. 25:32.000 --> 25:40.000 The white powder that was coating the bodies, said to be plaster, was actually a substance called diatomaceous earth. 25:40.000 --> 25:48.000 This diatomaceous earth is a fossilized microscopic algae that formed on the earth during the Pleistocene era. 25:48.000 --> 25:56.000 This powder has desiccant and absorbent qualities and can also function as a natural fungicide and insecticide, 25:56.000 --> 26:01.000 which certainly helped preserve the body and kept it free of external pathogens. 26:01.000 --> 26:10.000 Another fact is that there are deposits of this substance very close to the Nazca area, and also this substance naturally occurs in some caves. 26:10.000 --> 26:15.000 But what does it mean that the bodies are covered with this powder? 26:15.000 --> 26:25.000 Could the bodies have been placed in these caves with diatomaceous earth, or could the substance have been placed on the body in an unknown ritual? 26:26.000 --> 26:32.000 At this point in the investigation, the team was informed of the discovery of two more bodies. 26:32.000 --> 26:40.000 It was a headless body, about 60 cm in length, and the body of a baby, with the same characteristics as Maria. 26:40.000 --> 26:43.000 Both were covered with a white powder. 26:43.000 --> 26:49.000 According to Mario, these two bodies were found in the same tomb where the others were discovered. 26:50.000 --> 26:55.000 The baby's body was named wawita, which means baby in the Quechua dialect. 26:55.000 --> 27:00.000 The headless body in a seated position was given the name Victoria. 27:00.000 --> 27:07.000 The wawita topography showed the mummy of a child with a formed skeleton in the fetal position. 27:07.000 --> 27:12.000 Both hands had three fingers each, but there were signs of finger removal. 27:12.000 --> 27:16.000 The right hand had four visible bones of the metacarpus. 27:16.000 --> 27:21.000 The left had three bones of the metacarpus and signs of bone removal. 27:21.000 --> 27:28.000 Was this body tampered with by Mario and his team, or could the body have been modified hundreds of years ago? 27:28.000 --> 27:32.000 And if this was the case, what was the reason? 27:32.000 --> 27:42.000 The team decided to focus on the other bodies, of which they could not find evidence of bone removal or tampering, because test results were still coming in. 27:42.000 --> 27:53.000 By now, the results of the carbon-14 dating study conducted on Maria by the Laboratory of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México were received. 27:53.000 --> 27:58.000 The result dated the mummy to be 1,770 years old. 27:58.000 --> 28:06.000 This placed it in the period of the Nazca culture flourishing, thus proving that the mummy was not modern. 28:06.000 --> 28:18.000 Gaia also did their own testing at a facility in the United States called Beta, and the numbers came out to be the same for Maria, approximately 1,700 years old. 28:18.000 --> 28:24.000 The smaller body, Victoria, was dated around 800 A.D. 28:24.000 --> 28:32.000 But there was still more testing to do on the bodies that would prove or disprove what these bodies might be made of. 28:32.000 --> 28:36.000 Samples were taken again from the bodies for DNA testing. 28:36.000 --> 28:46.000 The team was hoping to see if the DNA matched any modern human species or any other known biological species on the planet. 28:46.000 --> 28:52.000 This result could help decide if there was a serious case to keep investigating. 28:52.000 --> 29:03.000 Meanwhile, the null answer given by the Ministry of Culture and the constant attacks by Peruvian anthropologists and archaeologists were discouraging for the team. 29:03.000 --> 29:07.000 This adverse climate hindered investigations. 29:07.000 --> 29:16.000 Members of the team reached out to archaeologists to come look at the bodies and decide for themselves, but they refused. 29:16.000 --> 29:23.000 Instead, many attempts by these parties were made to discredit any information surfacing about the mummies. 29:23.000 --> 29:33.000 In tests and research carried out by the team, the participation of Ministry scientists still to this day has been non-existent. 29:33.000 --> 29:45.000 Journalist Jaime Muson sent a letter to the Peruvian Minister of Culture to request a meeting in which he could talk about the findings and results of the investigations carried out thus far. 29:45.000 --> 29:56.000 He hoped that the Ministry would join in the research of something that could be a great archaeological discovery and to allow them to revise the evidence firsthand. 29:56.000 --> 30:00.000 But the result was not what he expected. 30:00.000 --> 30:09.000 Very disappointed. We expected to be treated by the Minister of Culture here in Peru. 30:09.000 --> 30:19.000 Unfortunately, they sent someone from second or third level to tell us that we should send an email requesting for something like this. 30:19.000 --> 30:29.000 It's very unfortunate. I think they don't have any interest to cooperate and to do any kind of investigation around this case. 30:29.000 --> 30:38.000 It's very unfortunate to find the truth for everyone, not just here in Peru, but around the world. 30:38.000 --> 30:43.000 But the team carried on to find some kind of truth. 30:43.000 --> 30:49.000 The samples that were taken by Konstantin Korotkov on the last visit were tested in Russia. 30:49.000 --> 30:59.000 The first DNA analysis performed in Russia by the Institute of Analytical Chemistry at the University of St. Petersburg took just over a month. 30:59.000 --> 31:15.000 Dr. Mikhail Asiv oversaw the DNA extraction and the results showed that it was an organic specimen that once had life, specifically of a female creature, because the DNA included the X chromosome. 31:15.000 --> 31:35.000 When our scientists in St. Petersburg, in one of the top laboratories, laboratory was able to make DNA testing of this big body, and this DNA has only X chromosomes, it means that this is a lady, this is a female. 31:35.000 --> 31:45.000 Now, of course, they need to make next level of next stage of research. They need to make sequencing of this DNA. 31:45.000 --> 31:54.000 It means to define genome with and define all genes and compare those genes with existing libraries of genes. 31:54.000 --> 32:00.000 From the first results of the DNA test practiced on Maria, new questions arose. 32:00.000 --> 32:12.000 Although it was an organic body more than 1700 years old, the three-fingered hands and feet still needed to be tested to prove that they were real as well. 32:12.000 --> 32:18.000 Besides, more samples needed to be taken off of the other three bodies and from Wawita. 32:19.000 --> 32:28.000 It would be necessary to remove tissues from the mummy's feet, hands and body again to check to see if they indeed belong to the same individual. 32:28.000 --> 32:34.000 But convincing Mario to allow taking new samples would not be so easy. 32:34.000 --> 32:42.000 At first, the fear that the bodies could be severely damaged made him profoundly refuse any more sample extractions. 32:43.000 --> 32:50.000 The team explained the need to take those samples to verify that all parts of the body belong to the same subject. 32:50.000 --> 32:56.000 An arduous negotiation was necessary to convince him of the new collection of samples. 32:56.000 --> 33:03.000 But he finally agreed only for the bodies of Maria, Wawita and Victoria. 33:03.000 --> 33:06.000 Josephina and Alberto were off limits. 33:07.000 --> 33:15.000 According to Mario, three more bodies with similar characteristics to the previous ones were discovered in a nearby cave. 33:15.000 --> 33:23.000 These three bodies, close to 60 cm in length, also had three-fingered hands and feet with elongated skulls. 33:23.000 --> 33:27.000 The three bodies were given a nickname, the family. 33:27.000 --> 33:33.000 They were covered with the same white powder as the previous ones, diatomaceous earth. 33:34.000 --> 33:36.000 But where was this tomb? 33:36.000 --> 33:40.000 The team wondered if they were ever going to see this cave. 33:40.000 --> 33:46.000 And how many bodies actually existed in what Mario referred to as a large tomb? 33:46.000 --> 33:55.000 They, just like the archaeological experts in Peru, wanted to know that an actual tomb or location of the bodies existed. 33:56.000 --> 34:06.000 To summarize, with these additional three mummies, six bodies thus far had been presented that were approximately 60 cm in length. 34:06.000 --> 34:13.000 Three of them had been given names. They were Alberto, Josephina and Victoria. 34:13.000 --> 34:16.000 Two of the mummies had human characteristics. 34:16.000 --> 34:21.000 A life size known as Maria and the baby they called Wawita. 34:21.000 --> 34:26.000 Also discovered were three three-fingered hands and two heads. 34:26.000 --> 34:30.000 It is not certain that these are all the pieces that exist. 34:30.000 --> 34:37.000 Because of Mario's inconsistent accounts, he sometimes did mention that there could be many more. 34:37.000 --> 34:43.000 Even Thierry Jamin suspects that some of those pieces may be moved out of Peru. 34:44.000 --> 34:55.000 Mario got in touch with me in January and we met in Bolivia in the city of La Paz, with a lot of secrecy because he is a very mistrusting person. 34:55.000 --> 35:02.000 We sat down and I tried to convince him not to sell any of the artifacts, 35:02.000 --> 35:10.000 telling him that his name would go down in history as the man who made the great discovery, but he would not sell it. 35:10.000 --> 35:15.000 He only cares about the money. 35:15.000 --> 35:31.000 Mario is a Huacaro, a professional tomb robber for over 25 years with high-level contacts from Brazilian politicians to Peruvian heads of state and renowned archaeologists here in Peru. 35:31.000 --> 35:35.000 Could Mario have been selling to the highest bidder? 35:35.000 --> 35:40.000 And if this were true, how was this jeopardizing the case? 35:40.000 --> 35:51.000 Could the stalling by the Peruvian government or negative press provided by people convinced it was a hoax actually have aided in a more sinister plan to cover it up? 35:51.000 --> 35:55.000 The team could only suspect these things without proof. 35:55.000 --> 36:00.000 In the meantime, they need to continue gathering data. 36:00.000 --> 36:11.000 Samples taken from the different areas of Maria's body, especially the feet, hands, pelvis and under the arm, were analyzed by DNA tests at the University of St. Petersburg. 36:11.000 --> 36:17.000 The tests connected the tissues from all these areas to the same body. 36:17.000 --> 36:24.000 It disproved the theory of some Peruvian archaeologists that it was a body built with parts of different creatures. 36:24.000 --> 36:29.000 The test also revealed something very interesting. 36:30.000 --> 36:34.000 Please tell me, what progress have you made to analyze our specimens? 36:34.000 --> 36:38.000 We have carried out an elemental analysis of these specimens. 36:38.000 --> 36:48.000 And generally speaking, the data that we received allows us to make a conclusion that it is an ordinary set of elements, except for cadmium. 36:48.000 --> 36:52.000 We have found cadmium chloride on the surface of these specimens. 36:52.000 --> 36:59.000 Actually, the specimens were obviously covered with cadmium chloride and diatomaceous earth. 36:59.000 --> 37:04.000 As far as I understand, cadmium chloride is not found at all in nature. 37:04.000 --> 37:12.000 It needs to be acidized, extracted, then transformed into a soluble form, into cadmium chloride. 37:12.000 --> 37:18.000 It also needs to be purified for sure. It is a complicated procedure. 37:18.000 --> 37:25.000 So it is unobtainable or impossible for the primitive civilizations, is that correct? 37:26.000 --> 37:33.000 If they do not have concentrated acids and simple chemical reactors, then it is really impossible. 37:33.000 --> 37:39.000 It is clear that all those subjects, they were processed with cadmium chloride. 37:39.000 --> 37:45.000 And those elements may be created only by highly developed civilizations. 37:45.000 --> 37:54.000 It's not simple people living in the Nazca area, different tribes, who were able to make this chemical process. 37:54.000 --> 37:59.000 Our European civilization came to this process only in the mid-19th century. 37:59.000 --> 38:06.000 Now we use a lot of cadmium chloride in our civilization to preserve different subjects. 38:06.000 --> 38:14.000 Because this is the best preserver that kills all bacteria, all contaminations and viruses. 38:14.000 --> 38:20.000 So we use it in our modern life a lot. But it doesn't exist in nature. 38:21.000 --> 38:25.000 Unusual discovery. But what did it mean? 38:25.000 --> 38:32.000 As the team waited for more specific DNA results, Mario agreed to take some people to the cave. 38:32.000 --> 38:42.000 He invited Peruvian journalists Joyce Mantilla, Thierry Jamin, his team and Dr. Konstantin Korotkov to show them the site. 38:42.000 --> 38:49.000 They departed from Palpa and entered an area of arid mountains where it would be easy to get lost. 38:49.000 --> 38:56.000 After a few kilometers, they descended from Mario's old car and began a hike along the rocky path. 38:56.000 --> 39:03.000 Later, the trail disappeared and the group had to climb, making their way between the rocks. 39:03.000 --> 39:07.000 An hour later, they arrived at the cave. 39:07.000 --> 39:14.000 The entrance was covered by stones, which helped it go unnoticed, except to Mario's expert eyes. 39:14.000 --> 39:21.000 After visiting the cave, it was clear that this cave was covered in diatomaceous earth. 39:21.000 --> 39:24.000 But could this be the actual cave? 39:24.000 --> 39:32.000 In those mountains, there are no grass, no vegetation, nothing alive. So they are totally dead. 39:32.000 --> 39:38.000 And it's a big contrast. You look there, you see a beautiful place with a lot of trees and everything. 39:38.000 --> 39:41.000 You look here, you see only rocks. 39:42.000 --> 39:46.000 When we came to the cave, the cave itself is not so big. 39:46.000 --> 39:53.000 But it's not like a cave which has been used by ancient people, where they can make fire, where you sit together. 39:53.000 --> 39:58.000 No, it's just a little cave. All this cave was covered with this dust. 39:58.000 --> 40:05.000 It was not only on the floor, but all around. So it was again clear that it's natural material. 40:05.000 --> 40:08.000 First of all, I don't believe in anything Mario tells. 40:08.000 --> 40:14.000 It is clear for me, clear, that the cave we were taken, it's not the only cave. 40:17.000 --> 40:21.000 There was a lot of controversy surrounding the location of the site. 40:21.000 --> 40:28.000 As different groups of tomb raiders pointed to different locations, none of which corresponded to what had been described. 40:28.000 --> 40:33.000 Mario finally decided to contact us and show us the place. 40:34.000 --> 40:39.000 Getting there was very difficult. Only someone with local knowledge would be able to find it. 40:39.000 --> 40:47.000 Because to the untrained eye, there was no way of telling the entrance to the cave, as it was covered with small stones. 40:48.000 --> 40:51.000 When we got to the place, we did not believe it. 40:51.000 --> 40:58.000 Because we had been told it was a citadel with walls and a gate, many chambers with inscriptions, and there was none of that. 40:59.000 --> 41:03.000 We were disappointed because it was not the story we had heard. 41:03.000 --> 41:11.000 I was upset, confused, and disappointed all at once, because Mario is the sole source of the story. 41:13.000 --> 41:18.000 In journalist work, you cross-reference several accounts to find the truth on a story. 41:18.000 --> 41:26.000 But when you have only one source, only one person to tell you that story, you either believe them or you don't. 41:26.000 --> 41:33.000 If the bodies are real, the story can be real. But in this case, his original story did not match. 41:33.000 --> 41:40.000 Having said that, several features did match. The smell on the cave was similar to that of the mummies. 41:40.000 --> 41:43.000 The space distribution also matched. 41:43.000 --> 41:49.000 We saw the exact location where Huawita, Maria, and the family of two-foot beings were found. 41:49.000 --> 41:55.000 Those calculations make it likely that this was the place where the mummies were found. 41:55.000 --> 42:00.000 But there were definitely no ruins or ancient citadel. 42:01.000 --> 42:09.000 This fact was a disappointment for the team. The tomb, so frequently referred to, did not exist as such. 42:09.000 --> 42:16.000 However, the cave shown coincided in many ways with some of the characteristics found in the bodies. 42:16.000 --> 42:22.000 Therefore, despite the disappointment, it was plausible that the mummies could have come from that place. 42:25.000 --> 42:32.000 More genetic results came trickling in. There were DNA results from Mexico and from Russia. 42:32.000 --> 42:38.000 The sequencing process itself is run on a device called the genome sequencer. 42:38.000 --> 42:49.000 In our case, we used two sequencers. One for the primary analysis, MISEK sequencer, and HiSEK sequencer for a comprehensive analysis of the genomic DNA. 42:49.000 --> 42:55.000 A great amount of data is generated after sequencing. This data is generated in the machine. 42:55.000 --> 43:06.000 After this data has been generated, it is transferred to a computer and then our colleague Alexei, a bioinformatician, used them to analyze the data. 43:06.000 --> 43:13.000 He found out that they are actually ancient samples and we can yield the ancient DNA and we have it. 43:14.000 --> 43:20.000 The fact that this ancient DNA has a lot of variations that are alternative to the standard genome is quite interesting. 43:20.000 --> 43:25.000 In other words, it tells us that we actually have unique and new data. 43:28.000 --> 43:35.000 The latest results from the DNA studies of the bodies have shown surprising results for Maria and Moavita. 43:36.000 --> 43:42.000 This means that according to the report from the DNA samples taken from several areas of the bodies, 43:42.000 --> 43:52.000 they were able to get approximately 23.8% from Maria and 25.6% DNA from Moavita of human-like DNA. 43:52.000 --> 43:56.000 But none of that matched to modern human DNA. 43:56.000 --> 44:03.000 The sample was analyzed to determine whether or not it contained human DNA, 44:03.000 --> 44:08.000 which was one of the hypotheses that could explain these strange bodies. 44:08.000 --> 44:15.000 That possibility was explored and the results were around a 10% match in strict conditions 44:15.000 --> 44:21.000 and even relaxing some of the parameters we could not get a 100% match with human DNA. 44:22.000 --> 44:26.000 The analysis included a vast array of species. 44:26.000 --> 44:32.000 One of the software programs we use, in particular, performs comparisons with more than a million species, 44:32.000 --> 44:39.000 which allows us to approximate as much as possible the sample with the DNA of all currently known species. 44:40.000 --> 44:48.000 Some species were a higher match, some plants and bovine DNA, but still in very small portions. 44:49.000 --> 44:54.000 I have to say that this sample contains DNA that we currently don't know. 44:54.000 --> 44:58.000 It could be from an organism that has not been studied, 44:58.000 --> 45:02.000 perhaps there was some microbiological contamination of the samples, 45:02.000 --> 45:06.000 but it could also be original DNA from these bodies. 45:06.000 --> 45:10.000 That means that these bodies could belong to a previously unknown species. 45:11.000 --> 45:18.000 The genetic results were also showed to William Brown, a biophysicist from Southern California, 45:18.000 --> 45:22.000 and his take on the tests were very interesting. 45:24.000 --> 45:35.000 Of the DNA that was isolated, only 25% of the total matched any known human gene. 45:36.000 --> 45:46.000 That means that 75% of this DNA is not matching any known human reference sequence. 45:48.000 --> 45:56.000 This is pretty rigorous because there's the 1000 Human Genome Project, 45:56.000 --> 46:03.000 where they have done whole genome sequencing of over 2000 individuals from every continent on Earth, 46:03.000 --> 46:09.000 and compiled kind of like an average human reference genome. 46:09.000 --> 46:16.000 And so you take these sequences isolated from the sample with this beam, 46:16.000 --> 46:24.000 and you go and you compare them to that human reference genome data, and only 25% match up. 46:24.000 --> 46:26.000 75% don't. 46:27.000 --> 46:33.000 DNA sequencing can take months or even years, depending on the questions asked. 46:33.000 --> 46:38.000 Given the small samples the team had, they wanted to ask the first question. 46:38.000 --> 46:43.000 Could this DNA match any known modern DNA? 46:43.000 --> 46:52.000 And that answer came out as no, from the lab the Mexico team used in Canada, and also the team in Russia. 46:52.000 --> 46:59.000 Is it normal for all labs in different countries to come up with the same results? 46:59.000 --> 47:05.000 I'm Dr. Doug Taylor. I'm a professor of biotechnology here at Harrisburg University. 47:05.000 --> 47:10.000 My background is I have a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology. 47:10.000 --> 47:17.000 When you think about the any parameters are associated with or methodologies for sequencing DNA, 47:17.000 --> 47:20.000 how is it different from one place versus another? 47:20.000 --> 47:26.000 I thought that there just was a set DNA sequencing process across every country, across every lab, 47:26.000 --> 47:32.000 but you're saying that's not the case. If you could explain DNA sequencing differences in other countries. 47:32.000 --> 47:37.000 Start with DNA sequencing, it's evolving. What is the question you're trying to ask? 47:37.000 --> 47:44.000 That'll determine how do I go about isolating this? And it can vary from lab to lab or country to country. 47:44.000 --> 47:49.000 But also comes the next question is what am I trying to answer? 47:49.000 --> 47:56.000 And what specific population of DNA am I trying to look at or what I think is going to give me that answer? 47:56.000 --> 48:04.000 And that may determine, OK, well, I need to put in this intermediate step, which is going to enhance that population of DNA, 48:04.000 --> 48:07.000 which is going to make it more likely that I'm going to get an answer. 48:07.000 --> 48:15.000 This is an incredibly interesting find, and it really needs to be looked into. 48:15.000 --> 48:21.000 And I think it's kind of an exciting time that different groups can apply different expertise. 48:21.000 --> 48:27.000 We're no longer this these little individual groups anymore. You have a global community. 48:27.000 --> 48:34.000 We can bring everyone together on the global scale to look at provide different expertise in order to answer these some of these questions. 48:34.000 --> 48:41.000 Is it human? Yes or no. But beyond that, what does it mean for humans as a race? 48:41.000 --> 48:49.000 The DNA samples were also taken from Victoria, one of the smaller bodies, and the results were also very surprising. 48:49.000 --> 48:54.000 Of course, it was very important for us to make the DNA test of little creatures. 48:54.000 --> 49:06.000 And we didn't want to disturb big little ones because they are so tiny that, of course, it should be done only in very special conditions, 49:06.000 --> 49:15.000 in very sterile room, in special atmosphere. So we didn't want to make it in just normal, just in simple room. 49:15.000 --> 49:23.000 That's why we had only access to headless one where it was possible to get samples from the neck. 49:23.000 --> 49:29.000 First conclusions, both in Russia and in Mexico, was it is not human. 49:29.000 --> 49:46.000 So of all known to us DNA of organic life, I mean, humans, animals, plants, bacteria, microbes, there are no correlation with DNA of Victoria. 49:46.000 --> 49:55.000 No match at all. So that's why it is clear conclusion by scientists that it's something different. 49:55.000 --> 50:04.000 For the experts involved in this case, it's clear that this is something amazing and never before seen. 50:04.000 --> 50:07.000 But there was still more data to gather. 50:07.000 --> 50:17.000 Data that would compare their DNA sample to other human species on the planet, such as Neanderthal or Denisovan. 50:17.000 --> 50:27.000 To take more samples of the bodies and to compare the DNA of these creatures to other human species, the Gaia team traveled back to Peru. 50:27.000 --> 50:37.000 This time they were accompanied by scientist William Brown, who had a special interest in getting the samples into a specific lab in the United States. 50:37.000 --> 50:41.000 And what are you possibly going to be doing with the samples on your end? 50:42.000 --> 50:59.000 So if we are successful in retrieving samples, I have labs that I work with where we can do a very thorough cleaning of the sample to reduce contamination. 50:59.000 --> 51:13.000 And we can do the kind of DNA sequencing and analysis that will definitively show the nature or origins of the bodies. 51:13.000 --> 51:24.000 Another scientist and PhD from Russia, Dmitry Galiki, accompanied Konstantin Korotkov to gather data for their ongoing study they had going in their labs. 51:24.000 --> 51:28.000 How do you feel that your expertise is going to for this case? 51:29.000 --> 51:40.000 This is such an interesting moment in terms of the anatomical analysis of the CT scans. And, of course, what I would like to see are the tissues, the composition of the tissues. 51:40.000 --> 51:45.000 Do you feel that the small bodies are more interesting than Maria and Walwita? 51:45.000 --> 51:56.000 The little ones are very interesting. First of all, there's more of them. There's Josephina, Alberto and the rest. And their skulls have variants that can be analyzed. Their anatomy is absolutely amazing. 51:56.000 --> 52:09.000 On the trip, GAIA journalist Melissa Tittle managed to get Carla Vargas from the Physical Anthropology Cabinet of the Ministry of Culture of Cusco to talk to her about the strange bodies found in Nazca. 52:09.000 --> 52:17.000 Melissa wanted to find out why they were reluctant to join the investigation of this finding and what their impressions of it were. 52:17.000 --> 52:23.000 What do you think of the Nazca mummy that came out? That's like people are saying as a hoax. 52:23.000 --> 52:42.000 Well, apparently, based on the information that we've seen on the internet, in the news and so on, it looks like a mummy that has been altered to give the impression that it is not of earthly origin, that it would be an extraterrestrial mummy. 52:42.000 --> 52:57.000 What we have been able to see based on the photographs is that the hands of the mummy, it is a real mummy, but it has been altered with those purposes. Some phalanges have been removed, as well as some other bone parts and other parts have been added to it. 52:57.000 --> 53:08.000 So it's a real mummy, you know, because it's positioned that way, but you're saying that the phalanges, the fingers and the toes, those have been altered. 53:08.000 --> 53:23.000 They have been altered, yes. If it was really an ET mummy, they should be able to show CAT scans and x-rays of the individual, but they only showed a photograph. 53:23.000 --> 53:29.000 There are no further studies that would give credence to their claim. 53:29.000 --> 53:40.000 It would be nice to be able to see an x-ray from the individual, to be able to determine if it suffered from a certain pathology or disease, or if it had a condition that made it different. 53:40.000 --> 53:53.000 They have done x-rays on them. Would you be interested in seeing the body or the x-rays or any of that kind of stuff? Is that something the Ministry of Culture would be interested in? 53:54.000 --> 54:06.000 In principle, the Ministry of Culture, as the official body in charge of protecting our cultural heritage, the first question would be, where did these mummies come from? 54:06.000 --> 54:15.000 Why should we give a voice to someone that is destroying our heritage, someone who is carrying out clandestine excavations? 54:15.000 --> 54:26.000 Then, if the individual is able to support his or her research or work, I think the Ministry would be willing to study it. But I don't think that will happen. 54:26.000 --> 54:41.000 After the interview with the official of the Ministry of Culture of Cuzco, the team went to the NKARI Institute to grab more samples, where Thierry Jamin informed them that the bodies have disappeared, and he doesn't know where they are. 54:41.000 --> 54:47.000 So everyone knew we were coming, but then they just took the bodies, and now we're just sitting here. 54:47.000 --> 54:49.000 Well, we don't know that they've taken the bodies. 54:49.000 --> 54:52.000 But he's put them in a place. 54:52.000 --> 54:53.000 A month ago. 54:53.000 --> 54:54.000 A month ago. 54:54.000 --> 54:55.000 De qué? 54:55.000 --> 55:01.000 The transport of the bodies from here to that other place, that was a month ago, right? 55:01.000 --> 55:02.000 Less. 55:02.000 --> 55:03.000 A little less? 55:03.000 --> 55:04.000 Less. 55:04.000 --> 55:07.000 But yeah, that's been that way. 55:07.000 --> 55:14.000 Three or four times we have to change the site for the security of the material. 55:14.000 --> 55:22.000 They've changed the mummies from place more than three times, to guarantee the security of the mummies. 55:23.000 --> 55:29.000 Without more DNA tests, they could not ask more questions. 55:29.000 --> 55:35.000 For everyone involved in this case, they felt that they had interesting information. 55:35.000 --> 55:47.000 But at every turn, there was a block in completing the investigation, whether it was from the government, Mario, or several members of the team. 55:47.000 --> 55:51.000 But then, something interesting happened. 55:51.000 --> 56:05.000 On August 18th, 2018, the team, including Konstantin and Dimitri, were able to get access to the bodies to do one final tomography that was of the highest quality. 56:05.000 --> 56:20.000 These CT tomographies used a special program that allowed a more detailed examination of each layer of the bodies, in a precise way that would be able to isolate certain areas for better examination. 56:20.000 --> 56:33.000 After we received these high resolution images, Professor Gajdzki was able to make very detailed analysis of both Maria, big one, and very important, Josephina, little creature. 56:33.000 --> 56:41.000 If we talk about Maria, she's human-like. First of all, details of her skull, anatomy of the skull. 56:41.000 --> 56:48.000 Second, of course, fingers and toes. So if you go step by step, then of course, first the skull. 56:48.000 --> 57:00.000 On the skull, we see that she has no ears. And construction of her ear bones, different from us. 57:00.000 --> 57:09.000 This is the first main conclusion. Then construction of skull itself, it's a little bit different. 57:09.000 --> 57:17.000 Of course, it is elongated skull, maybe not as elongated as we can see in Paracas, but still it is elongated. 57:17.000 --> 57:24.000 It is more elongated compared with our rounded skull. 57:24.000 --> 57:33.000 Second, different construction of bones, of nose. But all other topics of the skull are very similar. 57:33.000 --> 57:47.000 We don't have a lower part of the body. So neither organs of reproduction, nor liver, nor kidneys. 57:47.000 --> 57:57.000 It's strange, but this came to some conclusions that maybe she was attacked by some animal. 57:57.000 --> 58:10.000 And Professor Gajdzki was able to find tracks of claws, fangs on her body. And all this lower part of the body is just as taken away. 58:10.000 --> 58:16.000 And then we see some parts of the particle that may be related to blood. 58:24.000 --> 58:36.000 The most interesting for all of us was analysis of small bodies. And we had CT scans of two bodies. 58:36.000 --> 58:45.000 And now we know that they are male and female. And we had high resolution analysis of one of them. 58:45.000 --> 58:56.000 Their anatomy construction is totally different from ours. No human beings, no animals have type of bones as they have. 58:56.000 --> 59:01.000 All living creatures have joints. For little creatures, it's not so. 59:01.000 --> 59:08.000 It's some very strange construction, like some balls of tissues inside. 59:08.000 --> 59:16.000 This allowed them to have some movements, but not like ourselves. So they were unable to make it like this. 59:16.000 --> 59:24.000 But only like this. And same as like this. So it's clear that their movement was quite limited. 59:25.000 --> 59:32.000 Then construction of their ribs is again totally different from any living creatures. 59:32.000 --> 59:42.000 Because for all living creatures, we have this central ball. Their ribs are rounded. And they have no this internal part. 59:42.000 --> 59:51.000 Absolutely different construction of skull. And of course, fingers and toes. They don't have mouth as we do. 59:51.000 --> 01:00:00.000 So it's clear that they were unable to eat hard food. Then totally different construction of ears. 01:00:00.000 --> 01:00:09.000 They had ears, but no like ears like we do. Just holes. And different type of bones inside the ear. 01:00:09.000 --> 01:00:13.000 There are some bones. It is very thin, but different. 01:00:13.000 --> 01:00:24.000 Then they had some holes on their skull that no living creatures have. 01:00:24.000 --> 01:00:33.000 And of course, it's absolutely unclear why do they have this type of hole. So what was the reason for nature to have this hole? 01:00:33.000 --> 01:00:42.000 And of course, detailed analysis in tomography allowed to see that it's not construction. That it's one subject. 01:00:42.000 --> 01:00:53.000 Because when they make analysis on tomography, they can make it slide by slide and see tiny details on high resolution. 01:00:53.000 --> 01:00:58.000 So it's clear that it's not composed of different parts. It's one, the same subject. 01:00:58.000 --> 01:01:06.000 From the very beginning, from the first X-ray, we've seen some rounded subjects in the belly of Jolefina. 01:01:06.000 --> 01:01:19.000 But when we had this detailed CT scan, Professor Gaileski was able to make like slides on the image of those eggs. 01:01:19.000 --> 01:01:27.000 And he demonstrated that those are real eggs. Because they have some cover, like any egg. 01:01:27.000 --> 01:01:36.000 They have some inside content. And inside, he was able to detect the fetus of some creature. 01:01:36.000 --> 01:01:45.000 So from one side, it is Jolefina fetus. From the other side, it is fetus of some living creature. 01:01:45.000 --> 01:01:57.000 With all this evidence and detail, could there be something in this that suggests at the very least a new species on this planet? 01:02:01.000 --> 01:02:13.000 Finally, on the morning of November 19, 2018, Cusco Congressman Armando Villanueva Mercado presided over a hearing about the mummies. 01:02:13.000 --> 01:02:19.000 Scientists who had participated in the study of the Peruvian mummies from different countries were invited. 01:02:19.000 --> 01:02:23.000 Every scientist had 15 minutes to present their data. 01:02:23.000 --> 01:02:29.000 Several groups presented tomography analysis describing their anatomical structure. 01:02:29.000 --> 01:02:37.000 Three groups presented results of DNA studies of different samples. All of these groups worked independently. 01:02:38.000 --> 01:02:51.000 With respect to the tomography analysis, the results were presented by Mexican Navy pathologist Dr. Jose Jesus Salsabanites and biologist Jose de los Rios López, also from Mexico. 01:02:51.000 --> 01:02:59.000 And from Peru, radiologist Dr. Raymundo Salasalfaro and surgeon Dr. Edson Salazar-Vivanco. 01:02:59.000 --> 01:03:03.000 Dr. Galiki presented the results of Russian studies. 01:03:03.000 --> 01:03:11.000 In general, all came to the conclusion that the anatomical structure of all mummies is different from humans. 01:03:11.000 --> 01:03:17.000 Mummies are so complex that any possibility of counterfeiting is eliminated. 01:03:17.000 --> 01:03:25.000 Biologist Ricardo Rengal of the Mexican company Abraxas Biosystems presented the results of the DNA analysis. 01:03:26.000 --> 01:03:36.000 Biologist Ricardo Rengal of the Mexican company Abraxas Biosystems presented the results of the DNA analysis of the small mummy, Victoria. 01:03:36.000 --> 01:03:42.000 Senfergen Labs from Canada performed a sample processing and sequencing. 01:03:42.000 --> 01:03:49.000 The fact that it was possible to extract DNA clearly indicated that the sample was from biological tissue. 01:03:49.000 --> 01:03:54.000 The same conclusion was made in the Russian laboratory of V.S. Baranov. 01:03:54.000 --> 01:04:01.000 The Canadian laboratory had a greater amount of material so that they were able to do better sequencing. 01:04:01.000 --> 01:04:10.000 The computerized analysis of the data showed that this DNA does not coincide with any human being or living organisms. 01:04:11.000 --> 01:04:20.000 Comparisons were facilitated with microorganisms, bacteria, and animals such as primates, crocodiles, and turtles. 01:04:20.000 --> 01:04:26.000 The conclusion was that the specimens were an unknown species of living beings. 01:04:27.000 --> 01:04:34.000 Therefore, the data from genetic studies, the tomography analysis, and the elementary composition of bodies 01:04:34.000 --> 01:04:41.000 clearly demonstrated that the mummies were genuine and required more serious research. 01:04:41.000 --> 01:04:47.000 All the groups worked independently, using their own resources and finances. 01:04:47.000 --> 01:04:54.000 The main objective of these presentations was to attract the attention of the Peruvian scientific community 01:04:54.000 --> 01:04:58.000 and to transfer the investigation to the official level. 01:04:58.000 --> 01:05:04.000 After the scientific presentations, a Peruvian archaeologist was given the floor. 01:05:04.000 --> 01:05:10.000 He stated that all the data presented was absolutely unacceptable. 01:05:10.000 --> 01:05:15.000 No one knows where these mummies were found and how they were extracted. 01:05:15.000 --> 01:05:18.000 No archaeologist was involved. 01:05:18.000 --> 01:05:21.000 There was no official authorization. 01:05:21.000 --> 01:05:31.000 And it is unclear on what basis all the studies presented were made, who authorized it, and where were the samples obtained. 01:05:31.000 --> 01:05:41.000 He didn't even want to consider the results, or that his own organization wanted nothing to do with the find from the beginning. 01:05:42.000 --> 01:05:48.000 Other official representatives of Peruvian science were not so blatantly negative. 01:05:48.000 --> 01:05:57.000 The Peruvian archaeologists' speeches were more neutral, but none of them supported the continuation of the investigation at any level. 01:06:00.000 --> 01:06:05.000 The Ministry of Culture, until last Friday, was interested in participating. 01:06:05.000 --> 01:06:13.000 I went there personally to talk to the Ministry of Culture myself, but for unknown reasons they've backed down from participating. 01:06:14.000 --> 01:06:20.000 After all the findings were presented, the Peruvian government went dark. 01:06:20.000 --> 01:06:23.000 There was no verdict by the government. 01:06:23.000 --> 01:06:28.000 Was the evidence too convincing? Was there not enough? 01:06:28.000 --> 01:06:32.000 But then something unexpected happened. 01:06:33.000 --> 01:06:42.000 Despite all the backlash from the anthropologists and archaeologists, a university took interest in the bodies. 01:06:42.000 --> 01:06:51.000 About 190 miles south of Lima, in the Nazca region, sits the Universidad San Luis Gonzaga in the town of Ica. 01:06:52.000 --> 01:07:03.000 This university is well known for scientific and technological studies that will help forward the world in changing times, specifically in the country of Peru. 01:07:05.000 --> 01:07:12.000 Is it possible that from the research gathered thus far that the university saw potential to dive deeper? 01:07:12.000 --> 01:07:18.000 The research facility has all the bodies but Josephina, which is being held back by Mario. 01:07:19.000 --> 01:07:25.000 Mario believes it has great value and refuses to give it to the university. 01:07:25.000 --> 01:07:30.000 And so the investigation continues, but in their hands. 01:07:31.000 --> 01:07:42.000 It seems that the evidence offered by scientists around the world and the persistence of the crew sparked an interest with some of the academic communities in Peru that could not be denied. 01:07:43.000 --> 01:07:51.000 Perhaps it is the discovery of a new species, a parting of waters in the knowledge of what we have of the human race. 01:07:51.000 --> 01:07:55.000 Or maybe, is it something completely different? 01:07:55.000 --> 01:08:04.000 The only people that have tried to find answers are a group of people committed first and foremost to finding what might be the truth. 01:08:05.000 --> 01:08:10.000 The journey started with a quest to give the truth to the authorities. 01:08:10.000 --> 01:08:18.000 And it ended with the bodies being transferred into a safe and reliable research facility for a deeper investigation. 01:08:18.000 --> 01:08:28.000 As the university unravels the truth using high tech equipment and more DNA studies, the world waits for an official answer. 01:08:29.000 --> 01:08:34.000 What did Mario really find in the mountains of Nazca? 01:08:34.000 --> 01:08:42.000 And how has this find sparked a debate that still refuses to be buried?
