They're kind of shy, reserved people and they don't like photos.

Of course, photos of Hopi ceremonies are strictly forbidden these days.

This is kind of a fertility and rain ceremony.

And I'll go over all the stars in the constellation that correspond to certain sites on the earth.

Now what is a star correlation?

The Egyptian-Orion correlation basically in its simplest form, it's very complex, but the simplest form is the three major pyramids on the plateau,

Khufu, Khafre and Menkare, mirror the belt stars of Orion.

So you see this would be the Great Pyramid here going up to Al-Nitakh.

The middle belt star is Al-Nilam and this belt star is Mintaka.

I believe this is Sirius and I think he's holding Aldebaran in Taurus.

You see the Nile River going south.

This is arcing across the southern sky in the wintertime.

So the Orion constellation is actually pointed south.

The head is pointed towards the south, really the opposite of the way you see it in the sky.

But if you were standing on the Great Pyramid on the top, which you can, the capstone is missing,

you could look to the south in the wintertime and see Orion and the other sites laid out on the Giza Plateau to mirror that particular constellation.

Now for the Hopi, Orion is the most important constellation.

Of course we call Orion the hunter.

The Hopi word for Orion is Hotamkom or beads on a string.

And these are the belt stars here.

The Hopi synchronized their winter solstice ceremony or Soyal by the appearance of Orion through Kiva's overhead hatchway.

In other words, in the wintertime on December 21st, they're looking overhead in the, they're inside the subterranean Kiva,

which is a communal prayer chamber that's underneath the ground.

And they're looking for Orion to appear in this hatchway so they know when to start this solar ceremony.

So it's kind of ironic that Orion synchronizes a basically solar ceremony.

There's always a ladder going down.

And this represents the previous world, which has been destroyed.

So you're descending into the previous world or the underworld.

They both serve the same purpose, whether they're round or rectangular.

I had started to read Robert Duvall's book, The Orion Mystery, that goes into this Egyptian-Orion correlation.

And I was driving up to a kachina dance.

Now you no longer can take photos of the kachina dance, but here's one from 1903.

It's a stereopticon view of the kachinas.

And this is a ceremony that takes place roughly, it starts about this time of year,

and goes through past the summer solstice and into July.

Now the kachinas are basically spirit messengers.

They're sort of like angels.

They're benevolent creatures. They're not out to do us harm.

They bring rainfall to the area.
10:50.920 --> 10:55.920
They're basically good guys, good spirits.

The masks that these dancers wear can be varied.

They can be dome-shaped, circular.

Sometimes they have horns.
11:10.920 --> 11:14.920
Sometimes they have feathers sticking out.
11:14.920 --> 11:18.920
There are literally hundreds of different types of kachinas.

And the Hopi carved these kachina dolls, which you've probably seen,
11:21.920 --> 11:26.920
in order for the children to learn the different, the appearance of the different spirits,
11:26.920 --> 11:33.920
these kachina spirits that come every year to the Hopi mesas.
11:33.920 --> 11:41.920
Some of these actually look like space helmets.
11:41.920 --> 11:47.920
Now the Hopi started to build pueblos or stone apartment complexes
11:47.920 --> 11:55.920
in a dozen or so villages spread across three different mesas in northeastern Arizona.
11:55.920 --> 12:02.920
And they started to do this about 1100 A.D.
12:02.920 --> 12:08.920
Now the path of the kachinas, they basically live in the San Francisco Peaks,
12:08.920 --> 12:13.920
which is down here, southwest of the Hopi mesas.
12:13.920 --> 12:14.920
There's three Hopi.
12:14.920 --> 12:19.920
You can kind of see the three main washes that go through the Hopi country there.
12:19.920 --> 12:25.920
And the kachinas live on these peaks, and they're the highest peaks in Arizona.
12:25.920 --> 12:29.920
And they go up to the mesas during the agricultural season,
12:29.920 --> 12:32.920
and they stay, like I say, through July or so,
12:32.920 --> 12:35.920
and then they migrate back to the San Francisco Peaks.
12:35.920 --> 12:40.920
So there's a circular path that they follow.
12:40.920 --> 12:48.920
And the last dance of the year is called the Neman, or the home-going ceremony.

This shot is from a place where I live, Chino Valley, Arizona,

which is about 60 miles southwest of the San Francisco Peaks.

They kind of resemble, to me, they kind of resemble the three pyramids on the Giza Plateau.

Here's Humphreys Peak, which is the highest point in Arizona, 12,633 feet.

This is an old, this was found in the early 20th century,
13:19.920 --> 13:22.920
and it mirrors this motif of the three peaks,
13:22.920 --> 13:27.920
except there are three parrots on top of these three peaks.
13:27.920 --> 13:30.920
Now parrots are not indigenous to Arizona.
13:30.920 --> 13:36.920
They live in the Maya country a thousand miles or so, over a thousand miles to the south.
13:36.920 --> 13:44.920
But we found, archaeologists have found parrots buried in graves in Arizona and New Mexico.
13:44.920 --> 13:54.920
It kind of mimics this motif of the Beno bird, which is found on top of the pyramid or obelisk.
13:54.920 --> 14:04.920
And I believe it's probably the same spirit, the spirit of the bird, the soul's flight to the afterlife.
14:04.920 --> 14:15.920
And by coincidence, the Hopi word, sahu, means star, and the ancient Egyptian word, sahu, means stars of Orion.

So there's a correlation between the two different cultures.

Here's another bird that they found in western New Mexico on a bowl, painted on the bowl.

It's got a pyramid-shaped head with an eye in the middle, kind of like the eye on the back of the dollar bill, really.

This represents the Milky Way, a checkerboard theme,
14:40.920 --> 14:47.920
and this represents mountains both in the terrestrial realm and in the underworld.
14:48.920 --> 14:56.920
So this might be the same as the phoenix, the Egyptian phoenix bird.

Okay, these are the three Hopi mesas.

First mesa, second mesa, and third mesa. And villages are built both on top and at the base of the mesas.

And I was driving up to see one of these kachina dances up from Winslow along this road,

and I was gazing off to the north, and I had just read Robert Buval's book, The Orion Mystery,

and I thought, well, maybe there's an Orion correlation right here in Arizona.
15:36.920 --> 15:41.920
Maybe it's the same way as in Egypt.
15:42.920 --> 15:47.920
And I went to the kachina dance and witnessed some of the dancers,
15:47.920 --> 15:59.920
and then when I got home, I got out some sky charts and got out a map of Arizona and found this correlation.

In fact, there was a village site or ruin site corresponding to each major star in the constellation Orion,
16:08.920 --> 16:14.920
and this really astounded me that the correlation could be so exact.

There you see the San Francisco peaks, the three peaks we saw before.

Here are the three Hopi mesas, and I'll go through each one of these.

Of course, Orion doesn't look this way when you look at it in the northern hemisphere, at least,
16:34.920 --> 16:42.920
but this is the way the Egyptian Orion points to, points to the south.
16:46.920 --> 16:54.920
Here's what Orion really looks like in the sky, and here's the way it's projected on the deserts of both Egypt and Arizona.

There's a couple sites up here that I'll be discussing individually,

and this arm, left arm of Orion, reaches over to the Grand Canyon.

Now, why live so far from a major source of water?

I think it must have been a cosmic rather than a practical choice, because there are really no running rivers in this area.

They built these mesas in the most desolate areas possible,

probably for a certain cosmic reason.

Yeah, they had cisterns, and there's been a lot of study done, the type of cisterns that they had on top of the mesas.

They collected water. There were also intermittent springs in this area.
18:13.920 --> 18:21.920
But the river, this is really the only major river, the little Colorado, that runs through this way and by one of the sites here.

And by the way, the word zona, as in Arizona, literally means the belt stars of Orion.

Okay, here's the three Hopi mesas again.

Again, the Hopi, call it the Tawanasavi, the center of the world, corresponds to Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka here.

They're really pretty far, you know, the middle belt star is 1300 light years away.

Did the Hopi settle on the three mesas at the center of the world because they wanted to pay homage to their celestial teachers from Orion?

It's a beautiful canyon over towards the east, kind of towards the border of Arizona and New Mexico.

This is Canyon del Muerto, an offshoot of Canyon de Che.

Here's the rim of the canyon and here are the ruins at the bottom. You can barely see them and here is a van parked at the bottom.

I had set up my tripod to film, to try to get some shots of this and then a big gust of wind hit me and I got back from the rim real quickly.

That's a long way down.

You can hike down to the bottom to White House Ruin, of course. There's cliff dwellings here and some more at the bottom.

This here, Potatkin and Keats Seal, they're two different ruins, represents the double star Rigel.

A beautiful cliff dwelling near Cayenta, Arizona.

Looks like an antelope here and a figure with upraised arms right here.

And this is very significant, I think. It's a pattern you see time after time in the southwest.

This ruin is Keats Seal. It's the largest cliff dwelling in Arizona. It's about eight miles north of Potatkin.

It's a passive solar heating that the ancient Hopi were using.

Okay, if you migrate south from here, you go down to a place called Homolavi.

And Homolavi, there are a number of ruins at Homolavi and they correspond to the star Betelgeuse in the right shoulder of Orion.

Okay, if we move over to the left shoulder of Orion, we see Bellatrix and the ruin of Wupatki.

Okay, Wupatki, it's perched on a hilltop built in the early 1100s.

You see an amphitheater at the bottom left hand corner and also a ball court.

This ball court is the farthest north ball court on the North American continent.

And it's the tradition that goes all the way down into the Maya country of Yucatan and Central America.

And there's a blowhole, which is a

natural or nature's air conditioner.

Cold air just blasts out of there in the summertime if the pressure is right.

The last site here is Misa, the star Misa, and Walnut Canyon, which is east of Flagstaff.

And these little ruins, they look like swallows nests underneath the cliff.

Okay, we have the whole Orion zone.

So we have the whole Orion area.

So we have the whole Orion constellation here.

There's also solstice lines.

A solstice line, it's kind of a complex thing that the Hopi observes solstice points on the horizon.

They call them sun watchers or tawawongwi that keep track of where the sun rises on the horizon.

And this, of course, is in tune with the agricultural calendar.

But you see, there are a bunch of solstice lines that link the villages together.

I'm not going to go into all of them because there's just too many to go into.

Here's an idea of what the Hopi sun watchers were looking for.

They'd see the sun would rise at 60 degrees Azimuth.

Azimuth is simply, you go north at zero degrees and you proceed south to 90, 180, 270, and back to zero.
26:49.320 --> 26:52.320
The sun would rise here on the first day of summer.
26:52.320 --> 26:56.320
The first day of winter, the sun would rise here on the horizon.
26:56.320 --> 26:59.320
And the Hopi kept track of all this.

And of course, the sunset points in winter and the sunset points in summer are very important.

So they knew where to plant, when to plant.

Okay, I'm going to talk about Mesa Verde. Mesa Verde is right up here in southwestern Colorado.

And it's along this line that I'll talk about. It's a chakra line.

Before I talk about that, just to give you an example of the way the Hopi, the ancient Hopi kept track of the solstice times,

I found this near Winslow, this petroglyph. It's on a vertical cliff face.

It's about 25 feet this way and 15 feet high.

And I think it's both a star map and a solstice marker.

You see, this is kind of an abstract thing. Markings, but they represent different constellations.

The Pleiades, Taurus, Iridonis, Orion, Canis Major, Canis Minor, Gemini, and Auriga.

Here's the constellations, and I've reversed them again 180 degrees, just like the Orion correlation.

And you can see a very close correlation. The V shaped in the constellation Taurus is very clearly represented.

The Pleiades, which are not marked, but here they are there, it's represented by this spiral.

And this kind of experience happens, this little sliver or triangle of light.

It goes right into the center of this spiral on the summer solstice.

At this particular site, it's at noon on the summer solstice, and this happens all over the southwest.

Another way that the Hopi kept track of the calendar.

Now this is what's called a chakra line through Orion.

It's kind of sending pranic energy from Mesa Verde through the three Hopi mazes into the head of Orion,

down to the mouth of the Colorado River.
